IT security and audits

Secure your IT estate, servers and network.

Understand your current protection, choose useful tools and organise incident response. Equipment, servers, firewalls, logs and backups are examined together.

Know what is protected, what is monitored and who responds

You may have antivirus, a firewall and backups but not know whether they address your risks. Or you receive alerts without knowing which require action. Karbonic examines the installation, explains gaps and proposes an organisation suited to your activity.

The aim is concrete: reduce opportunities for incidents, retain information to understand events and prepare recovery when a problem occurs.

Regain a reliable overview after an intrusion

Already delivered.Read moreShow less

Already delivered. An organisation was supported in analysing an intrusion and restoring its IT estate. Continuous monitoring of endpoint security coverage was then put in place.

A device in the inventory is compared with its state in the protection tool. This can identify an endpoint without an agent, an agent that no longer reports or equipment requiring checks. Coverage monitoring complements EDR or XDR; it replaces neither their analysis nor incident response arrangements.

Where do I start if I do not know my position?

The assessment covers endpoints, physical or virtualised servers, network equipment, hosted services and remote access.Read moreShow less

The assessment covers endpoints, physical or virtualised servers, network equipment, hosted services and remote access. Privileged accounts, unsupported software and backups are included.

Urgent corrections are distinguished from improvements that can be scheduled. A proposal identifies what needs fixing, what can be retained and what still requires verification.

Overall IT estate and server management

I have antivirus: what would EDR add?

Antivirus helps prevent and block malicious activity.Read moreShow less

Antivirus helps prevent and block malicious activity. EDR adds observation, investigation and response capabilities on monitored endpoints and servers. Functions sometimes overlap within a suite; the modules actually enabled must be checked.

One benefit is examining what preceded an alert and which equipment is affected. An additional licence does not provide the same service in every configuration: estate coverage and the organisation of alert handling also matter.

Business exposure and incident consequences are examined before choosing protection and monitoring.

Is EDR necessary in every case?

Endpoint count alone does not answer this.Read moreShow less

Endpoint count alone does not answer this. A few computers may contain highly sensitive files or provide access to essential services. Conversely, particular configurations may impose installation or availability constraints.

The analysis covers usage, access, data, feared incidents and response capabilities. Possible requirements from contracts, customers or insurance are also recorded for verification.

The recommendation may involve EDR, better use of an existing tool or a combination of measures adapted to a constraint. Capabilities retained and those relinquished are explained.

What does XDR change?

XDR brings together several security sources to investigate an incident in a wider context.Read moreShow less

XDR brings together several security sources to investigate an incident in a wider context. Available connections depend on the solution, sensors and licences.

Its value is examined through specific questions: should an endpoint alert be linked to an account, a hosted service or other equipment? Is the required data available? Who will examine the result?

Wider collection should support decisions. Unnecessary sources, duplicates and alerts without follow-up need to be identified during configuration and monitoring.

Can EDR be replaced or approached differently?

EDR can be replaced by another solution whose functions have been compared on your estate.Read moreShow less

EDR can be replaced by another solution whose functions have been compared on your estate. Some capabilities may already exist in your environment without being deployed or properly used.

A firewall, centralised logs or a management agent alone is not a functional replacement for EDR. They operate at different points and do not necessarily provide the same observations or actions.

Where an agent cannot be installed, segmentation, access restrictions and network monitoring are examined. Remaining visibility limits are stated. These measures are not presented as equivalent by default.

What needs protection beyond endpoints?

Accounts, remote access, exposed services, mail and communication systems need consideration.Read moreShow less

Accounts, remote access, exposed services, mail and communication systems need consideration. Permissions are reviewed against user needs, and personnel changes against access management.

Backups and recovery remain subjects in their own right. Protection against attacks does not demonstrate that a server or file can be restored. Items to recover and necessary tests are defined within IT management.

ANSSI and CISA recommendations provide references for complementary measures; their application is adapted to the installation.

How does NetWatch connect protection, estate management and 3CX?

NetWatch is Karbonic’s own agent, installed on a network workstation.Read moreShow less

NetWatch is Karbonic’s own agent, installed on a network workstation. It executes commands and reads information from compatible protection tools. Coordination with central management connects security monitoring, estate management and interventions.

Tool categoryRole in your installation
EDR/XDR protectionEquipment protection and security information, according to deployed modules.
Patch managementEndpoint management, updates and estate operations.
NetWatchInformation collection, local commands and intervention coordination.
3CXTelephony integrated into IT management; direct dialogue with NetWatch is planned.

NetWatch complements protection tools. It is not presented as a standalone EDR. Access, permitted commands and affected machines are defined for your installation.

Who examines alerts and decides on action?

Responsibilities, support hours and escalation arrangements are agreed.Read moreShow less

Responsibilities, support hours and escalation arrangements are agreed. Automatic actions are restricted to a defined scope; situations requiring a decision are identified.

An alert is placed in context: affected machine, user, recent change and essential service. The chosen action and its result must remain traceable. A morning report can support monitoring; alone, it does not amount to continuous monitoring.

If your requirements call for permanent support, the corresponding resources and commitments must be established explicitly.

When is digital investigation needed?

An incident, disputed chronology or search for deleted information may require deeper analysis.Read moreShow less

An incident, disputed chronology or search for deleted information may require deeper analysis. Firewall logs, system activities, computers and phones are examined within the authorised scope.

Findings are distinguished from interpretations. Missing data, retention periods and recovery limits are reported. Location traces can contribute to analysis but do not systematically establish a person’s position.

How do I start and understand the cost?

Your current installation, tools already paid for and difficulties provide the starting point.Read moreShow less

Your current installation, tools already paid for and difficulties provide the starting point. Diagnosis, improvements, licences and recurring monitoring are distinguished in the proposal.

You can decide on an understandable basis: coverage, intervention conditions, limitations and operating costs.
